GTA Vice City Online Modification Database 12

An anonymous reader writes "A Group of GTA Vice City game enthusiasts have created a complete integrated online modification install system capable of automatically installing any modification currently made for the game. Anyone can upload their modification to the database. Have they taken their love of a game a bit too far? I wonder what Rockstar, the makers of the game have to think about this?" Sadly, there's not much in the way of modding the PS2 version of GTA: VC, but now I'm considering plunking down the cash for the PC version.

  • Awesome! Now everyone can play my "counterstrike" mod!
  • i can't count the times i've wanted to find a repository of various levels, skins, etc. as i sit downloading them before i can get into various fps games...

    i can only see this as a positive, though it's possible they will have a few problems:

    * people thinking it's "official"
    * people distributing trojans, etc.

    what can rockstar do anyway... i don't see how this isn't a bonus for them.

  • Aside from the previous post, I think Rockstar has nothing to lose, because their game will get more popular, and the cash will still coming in.

    You guys have no idea how bad I want a Knight Rider mod for this game.

      Do 100 taxi missions and you'll get boost in all taxis when you hit the horn. You jump up like 15 feet, and you'll be able to clear at least 2 car lengths at full speed. It doesn't have to be contiguous either. When you finish Carmageddon, you also get a Zebra Cab, which is the fastest and best handeling cab in the game. It's not as good as the stock car or Cheetah, but it's good enough to outrun cops.

    Hopefully given rockstars willingness to give old free games away, they wont kick up a fuss - some of those mods look pretty sweet as well.

    What's the problem with it? It's a third party program that makes downloading mods easier... no different from downloading a mod from a fansite, except that this program makes it a little easier to find, install, and uninstall them.

    The user still has to decide to download the mods... I don't see why anyone'd have a problem with it.

    Who the hell wants to have to download some 3rd party app from someonoe you don't know that's then going to download whatever files they feel like.

    Put the files up and and let me download them. I don't need yet another program on my machine, especially one that so easy to trojan. The type of people who want to mod their installs certainly are capable of backing up a few files and then using new versions of them.
