iPod Game Creator, New Games Released

simoniker posted more than 10 years ago | from the basic-but-fun dept.

Games 24

XGamerX writes "The iStory Creator is a freeware application used to allow anyone to create their very own custom interactive games for Apple's iPod. There are also a number of freely downloadable games to get you started. The text-based games play similarly to 'choose your own adventure' games." Amusingly, there's a game called 'XOPlay Rampage', referencing the commercially-sold iPod adventures that were previously featured on Slashdot, and in the game: "XOPlay has stolen your ideas and used them for their own greedy purposes. Show them who is boss!"

Sorry! There are no comments related to the filter you selected.

Wonder if they've ported the games to NetBSD (-1, Troll)

GNAA Press release:
GNAA claims responsibility for kidnap of Olsen Twins [olsentwins.net]
By Gary Niger
Lindon, Utah - GNAA (Gay Nigger Association of America) this afternoon announced one of their loyal members was responsible for kidnapping the twins [jaboobie.com] inside a popular New York Club, Vudu Lounge (Websites [clubplanet.com] ).

In a shocking announcement this afternoon, GNAA representative rkz [google.com] revealed that he was the mistery gunman who penetrated high-security defenses of the Vudu Lounge and injected viral gay nigger seed deep inside the Olsen Twins, was indeed a full-time GNAA member.
"This is serious," rkz began. This is a first event of such magnitude since GNAA opened its doors to new members in 1996. Until now, we were gathering new members by announcing our group information on a popular troll website, slashdot.org [kuro5hin.org] , but this is a whole new era. By injecting our holy gay nigger seed right into human females, we will be able to immediately collect thousands of members. "Make the most of the next six weeks," he added. "We will grow in numbers more than you can possibly imagine".
Insertion of the GNAA collecting penis into their tight little vaginas came right between the consideration of Justin Timberlake [ibm.com] to buy out the entire early saturday morning disney entertainment show's cast, and will most likely positively affect the decision. By adding all the gay niggers working for Timberlake with the gay niggers developing Mac OS X kernel source, GNAA will be all-powerful and will begin plotting our next plans to penetrate "backdoors" into the next favorite teen pop star Kelly Osborne [cherworld.com] .

About GNAA

Are you a NIGGER [mugshots.org] ?

Why not? It's quick and easy - only 3 simple steps!

First, you have to obtain a copy of GAY NIGGERS FROM OUTER SPACE THE MOVIE [imdb.com] and watch it.

Second, you need to succeed in posting a GNAA "first post" on slashdot.org [slashdot.org] , a popular "news for trolls" website

Third, you need to join the official GNAA irc channel #GNAA on EFNet, and apply for membership.
Talk to one of the ops or any of the other members in the channel to sign up today!

If you are having trouble locating #GNAA, the official GAY NIGGER ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA irc channel, you might be on a wrong irc network. The correct network is EFNet, and you can connect to irc.secsup.org or irc.isprime.com as one of the EFNet servers.

About Lunix
Lunix is an operating system. An operating system is the basic set of programs and utilities that make your computer run. Some other common operating systems are Unix (and its variants BSD, AIX, Solaris, HPUX, and others); DOS; Microsoft Windows; Amiga; and Mac OS.
Lunix is Free Software. Now, just because it's Free, doesn't necessarily mean it's free. Think "free" as in "free speech," not "free beer," as we in the Free Software/Open Source community like to say. In a nutshell, software that is free as in speech, like Lunix, is distributed along with its source code so that anyone who receives it is free to make changes and redistribute it. So, not only is it ok to make copies of Lunix and give them to your friends, it's also fine to tweak a few lines of the source code while you're at it -- as long as you also freely provide your modified source code to everyone else. To learn more about free software and the major software license it is distributed under, called the General Public License (GPL), go here [com.com] .

Arrrrrrrrrr. Just got my ipod the other day. I hadn't seen that stuff yet. Looks handy.

DopeWars? (4, Interesting)

the Man in Black (102634) | more than 10 years ago | (#8704526)

But can I get DopeWars [sourceforge.net] for it? I have yet to meet the platform that DopeWars hasn't been implemented for...has it for the iPod?

Re:DopeWars? (4, Informative)

andfarm (534655) | more than 10 years ago | (#8705484)

No, and it can't be either. The "iPod Game Creator" just creates a network of cross-linked text files, which means you can't store any state. See my previous comment [slashdot.org] on this subject (and its children) for more information

... just creates a network of cross-linked text files..
I played a game using cross-linked files on Windows once.
It wasn't very fun.

The Mac version sucks too.

Even more impressive (to me) is MAME for some digital cameras [mame.net] . That one took my by surprise. Still is pretty technically amazing to a peon like me.

Typical /. user:
"Let's see what platform I can port [Dope Wars|Linux|MAME] to..."

Software for the iPod? (2, Interesting)

MonkeyCookie (657433) | more than 10 years ago | (#8704539)

I didn't even know it was possible for people to write software for the iPod.

How on earth is that done? It there some sort of development kit for it?

Re:Software for the iPod? (4, Informative)

Anonymous Coward | more than 10 years ago | (#8704850)

This is done via the iPod's notes interface. Basically the program just creates a higherarchy of notes representing your choose-your-own-adventure story, and uploads the notes to the iPod.

For anything much more complex than this, you'd probably have to install iPod linux and use that.

Well, it would appear this article is talking about a development kit.

Your moderate-traffic website has just been posted on slashdot without notice. You are being bombarded with eager viewers, just hoping for another kill. Your bandwidth usage has skyrocketed, slowing the speeds to pre-dialup rates. What do you wish to do now?
a) Shutdown server/Hide content
b) Counter-slashdot slashdot!
c) Go buy a super server
d) My webserver running off an iPod can take it! Bring it on!

d) My webserver running off an iPod can take it! (0, Offtopic)

Anonymous Coward | more than 10 years ago | (#8704888)

Hmm... I bet you could actually do that...

Get iPod Linux, set up TCP/IP over Firewire, install apache, and hook it up!

I wonder how many hits/sec an iPod could handle?

For a second I thought (0)

TechniMyoko (670009) | more than 10 years ago | (#8704724)

They were talking about me [sourceforge.net]

The games Im working on are much better than text adventures. As of last night I have solitaire working.

Then again, I have access to the whole pseudo-OS of my iPod, they can only work with what apple gives them

Re:For a second I thought (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 10 years ago | (#8705996)

Why on earth would anyone be talking about you? A sourceforge site with VBScript? Who at slashdot would even be able to see what the hell you're talking about?

Re:For a second I thought (0)

TechniMyoko (670009) | more than 10 years ago | (#8707970)

Im converting to javascript later, but VBScript is so much easier/programmer friendly

Re:For a second I thought (0)

TechniMyoko (670009) | more than 10 years ago | (#8708536)

Aside from your blatant rudeness, it's converted to javascript. You'd think by now non-IE users would be used to sites not working with their browsers, and would have IE anyway for said sites.

Bleh, who needs Ipod games . . . (2)

Nomihn0 (739701) | more than 10 years ago | (#8704798)

When you've got an Archos Jukebox Recorder? As beautiful as the Ipod is, I much prefer playing my Sokoban on a handy little 1 X 0.5 in. screen. Who needs the best when you can hack the worst to be damn close? That's my philosophy and that's why I got my Archos and the Rockbox firmware [rockbox.haxx.se] (since the included firmware is elegently idiotic).

Is that why people use Windows?

Or even Linux?

So are they basically just porting those old Texas Intruments games that I use to play during Algebra class? Anybody remember that weird Tetris game with Letters instead of blocks? Damn that was low budget.

So... (1)

superpulpsicle (533373) | more than 10 years ago | (#8705330)

You got PDAs trying to play MP3s.

You got iPod trying to play games.

In the end it comes down to who reaches the other side first. Why doesn't iPod just skip to the end and at windows CE.

.net framework (1)

madygoosey (745325) | more than 10 years ago | (#8707813)

I might be posting this without really looking into the problem, but I was wondering if anyone else trying to install the thing had to get some version( like 6.6.6.ms or something) of the .net framework. It's wierd.

.NET Framework? That's just wrong. (2, Interesting)

Kris_J (10111) | more than 10 years ago | (#8709458)

I tried to install the sofware (I'm thinking of converting the original Choose Your Own Adventure) but I have to install the .Net Framework (*shudder*) first -- for a Windows program to load a text game onto an Apple music player. How many levels of wrong are in this?

Re:.NET Framework? That's just wrong. (2, Informative)

Ath (643782) | more than 10 years ago | (#8713261)

Huh? On Windows, it is as easy as:

Step 1: Plug iPod into FireWire or USB port.

Step 2: Copy folders onto iPod into the Notes folder.
