2K Games Adds More Titles to its Roster

Take-Two publishing's 2K Games label, unveiled late last month, has acquired yet more hit titles to go alongside the MLB and Civilization franchises, according to Gamespot. Elder Scrolls IV, sequel to the hit Morrowind, and long anticipated Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth will be copublished with Bethesda Softworks.

well.. iirc elderscrolls III was published by ubisoft.

at least now they have a shot of avoiding ubi-bug-of-death.

morrowind rocks though.. i hope they manage to make elderscrolls IV as good as it..

Morrowind rocked, but was so empty..

I guess I'll try a few of these mods [mwmythicmods.com] first chance I get.
Some look pretty interesting.
A lot of Powergaming stuff, but some nice effect too, because what all RPGs need is more glowmapping on trees [tesmods.net].

TES3 was published by Bethesda in a solo effort. I really don't get why they need Take Two to help them out with TES4 or CoC. I am glad that Bethesda is keeping all of its creative control for TES4, though.

Hopefully, this doesn't mean that TES4 will be distributed with intrusive copy protection (such as Starforce, which installs device drivers on your machine). However, having Take Two rather than Bethesda as publisher makes me worry about this a bit more.

Elderscrolls IV is not akin to Plato. It's a fucking video game. Don't feel that you're special or intelligent because you play it. As point of fact, you are utterly average in everything you do. Electronic Arts (EA) announced today that it has been in talks with Gandalf, Merlin, and Harry Potter to secure the exclusive rights to use magic or any other arcane-related spellcasting in videogames. This would deal a big blow to Take-Two, who recently signed on to publish Bethesda's Elder Scrolls IV game, which relies heavily on the use of magic in its game design.

I dunno... it looked very interesting a few years ago (I seem to remember looking at the first preview of Dark Corners of the Earth back when I still used BeOS), but games that take "forever" to develop usually don't turn out that great.

Still, I've got my fingers crossed for this one, it's hard to find scary games.

That's Elder Scrolls *III* : Morrowind. Elder Scrolls IV is not out yet.

Although quite often publishers have made some bad decisions with regards to games, in this case the Developer is a very strong one with an excellent record.

Bethesda have made some great, but very under-rated games, from Terminator 2029 through to Elder Scrolls and so on. I have high expectations from these up and coming games.

New Fallout?

Frankly I don't know what to think of 2K Games, I guess it's just Take-Two with more of an aggressive acquisition and marketing strategy... kind of like how Atari is just a rethinking of corporate strategy by Infogrames.
